VOL. XI  NO. 20    NEWS & VIEWS, NOTES & QUOTES, TO WARN & INFORM   November 15, 1994

HOMOSEXUALS ARE HARDLY HARMLESS & GAY—Homosexuals seek acceptance and approval for their perverted lifestyle, but they are not discriminated against as a class. They earn an average of over $50,000 annually (9/12 CT). They paint themselves as peaceful, innocent, and gay. Yet a Washington newspaper reported that 80 percent of gays that ware court-martialed by the U.S. Army for sexual misconduct the past four years had engaged in assaults against their victims. Nearly half in-volved child molestation. And, "The top six U.S. male killers were all homosexuals," including John Wayne Gacy and Jeffrey Dahmer. Yet, a homosexual couple are pastors at a United Church of Christ in Seattle (11/94 BB). The Boston Police Department actively recruits gays and lesbians for academy classes(8/23/93 HT). Over 15 of the U.S.’s most powerful and prestigious news organ-izations, from National Public Radio to the Washington Post, recruited openly homosexual journal-ists at a Gay job fair (9/27/93 Chr.News). Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders endorses the adoption of children by homosexuals, and blasts the Boy Scouts for banning practicing homosexuals (4/4 CN).

GORBACHEV’S 10 GREEN COMMANDMENTS—Red dictator Mikhail Gorbachev is now dressed in environmental green. This former Soviet leader who presided over the murders of 1.4 million Afghan civilians, last year founded Green Cross, Int’l (10/17 New Amer.). His Oct. 17 speech at the Environmental Media Awards in Hollywood left his star-studded audience (Ted Turner, Jane Fonda, et al.) awe-struck. He proposed a new global code of universally binding environmental ethics, a "kind of ten commandments," for the environment (10/29 World) .It is ludicrous for this life-long Leninist who presided over perhaps the most environmentally-disastrous nation in history to lecture Americans with such moral authority. In his very first newspaper column in 1992 in the New York Times he said the idea of socialism lives on and the quest for a new form for putting the socialist idea into practice is ongoing. Gorbachev is like a watermelon--green on the outside, red on the inside.

BARBARA & NANCY OUT OF THE CLOSET ON ABORTION—First, Barbara Bush in her new book said abortion is a personal issue, but it should be allowed in the first trimester only. Then, Nancy Reagan decided to reveal her views on this sensitive subject. She said, "I’m against abortion--I don’t believe in abortion." She added, "On the other hand, I believe in a woman’s choice..." But this pro-choice position equates with pro-abortion, by allowing the status quo slaughter to continue.

UNICEF A FRAUD—Each year compassionate Americans cough up millions of dollars for the United Nations Children’s Fund, at Halloween or for Christmas cards. But the little aid that reaches the victims is dwarfed by that lost to waste, corruption, mismanagement, etc. (10/31 New Amer.). And any good achieved is vastly overshadowed by UNICEF’s long-standing shameful collaboration with brutal regimes, communist governments, etc. UNICEF works with the World Bank, Planned Parenthood, and other anti-natalist groups to promote abortion "access" and coercive population controls.

RED CHINA RESTRICTS RELIGIOUS PRACTICE—A Red Chinese official responded as follows to a ques-tion concerning religious practice and if Communist Party members can believe in God: "First, you must realize that membership in the Communist Party is very demanding and is only for the disci-plined few. If one chooses to join the party, they must understand and believe in the scientific laws of socialism. The first of these scientific laws is atheism. If a party member chooses to believe in religious superstition, he is free to leave the party. As far as religious practice is concerned, the people of China may participate in any of the state’s registered places of wor-ship. In the 1950s the party created the Catholic Patriotic Association to govern Catholics and the Three Self Patriotic Movement to oversee Protestants. These organizations were needed to cut off the foreign control of religion and to regulate it internally. [Some] have tried to de-stabilize [our) country through religious organization and practice. This will not be allowed." (9/1 CACC). China allows no real religious freedom, yet Pres. Clinton extended its most-favored-nation trade status in May and delinked China’s human-rights performance from future extensions.

CCM’S CHAPMAN A CLOSET RAPPER?—Steven Curtis Chapman is linked in a partnership with ecumenical Chuck Colson’s Prison Fellowship, and has appeared in concerts with radical sociologist Tony Cam-polo and Josh McDowell. He says he tries to communicate a Biblical world view in a way that will not be "abrasively preachy." He says his quest for relevance has shown that the best way to com-municate his faith is "not to preach fire and brimstone..."(10/30 HT). His music blends elements of country, folk, pop, jazz and soul. The 11/94 Moody says he has embraced high energy rock, and that several of his songs have elements of rap music, and asks: "[C]ould Steven be a closet rapper?"

FALWELL IN MOON ORBIT?—Sun Myung Moon claims to be the messiah, the "Lord of the Second Ad-vent," sent to complete the failed mission of Jesus Christ. He is still trying to forge ties with the Religious Right. Dr. Jerry Falwell spoke at the July 26 inaugural meeting of the Youth Federation for World Peace, a Moon front group (10/17 Chr. News). Falwell, Alexander Haig, Walter Fauntroy, Edward Heath, and Maureen Reagan sat at the head table with Moon at the vanity banquet. Moonie money funds the conser-vative Washington Times. Moon has called "Marx-ist" M. L. King the greatest American of this century. Moon, in 1989, expressed a willing-ness to support communist Gorbachev’s program.

GRAHAM’S ATLANTA CRUSADE—Former Pres. Jimmy Carter, Coretta Scott King, SCLC Pres. Joseph Lowery, and Robert Schuller were on the plat-form at Dr. Billy Graham’s Atlanta Crusade (10/ 27 HT). Dr. Norman Pyle (11/10 CVN) comments: "Dr. Billy Graham said on TV prior to the open-ing of his crusade here in Atlanta last month that they (Christians, Jaws and Moslems) were going to build a spiritual wall around Atlanta. As he did in Cleveland last summer, Saturday night featured a rock & roll band and a jazz group. He said, ‘We use their music to get our message across.’ A high-tech light '& laser show was produced by Scott DeVoss who has pro-duced similar acts for Rolling Stones, Madonna and Michael Jackson. This is the same ‘do what-ever you have to do to get a crowd’ philosophy that Graham has been following for almost 40 years. The Crusade had a record attendance. .

REPORT ON RECENT ACCC CONFERENCE—This editor attended the Executive Committee Meetings of the American Council of Christian Churches and the World Council of Biblical Churches, along with the annual Bible conference last month at Chadds Ford, Pa. The conference theme was, "The Sword and the Trowel in Strategic Times." Stir-ring messages (and a resolution) exhorted Fun-damentalists to "renew and strengthen efforts to build strong and growing ministries while remaining true to the separatist position...." Other resolutions dealt with: Abortion Viol-ence, AWANA and the NCC, The Attack on the Re-ligious Right, "Evangelicals and Catholics To-gether," Laughing Revivals, The NEA, Preaching vs. Counseling, Promise Keepers, and A Call to Secondary Separation. Send $2.00 for these ten long resolutions to: ACCC, P.O. Box 19, Wall-ingford, PA 19086, and request a sample copy of the ACCC’s new publication, The ACCC Challenge.

CHRISTIAN BOOKSTORES—Christians today should exercise discernment when shopping at "Chris-tian" bookstores. Many of their books, Bibles, and music selections are untrustworthy and/or dangerous. Dr. Wally Beebe says if you went to the CBA (Christian Booksellers Association) Convention you would be surprised to learn that under the umbrella of "Christian booksellers," they have included in the exhibitors: Seventh-Day Adventists, several Roman Catholic organi-zations, Jewish groups, and many liberal denom-inationally affiliated companies. The CBA’s Bookstore Journal promotes worldly rock music.

PROPHECY CONFERENCE—John Ankerberg, Hal Lind-sey, John Walvoord, Peter Lalonde, David Breese, and Arno Froese spoke at a West Coast Prophecy Conference, Nov. 3-6. These men are linked with New Evangelicalism. Froese, editor of Midnight Call, says (7/94): "As far as politics and voting is concerned, I simply can’t see in the Scripture that we have such responsibilities."

DOBSONS JOIN GRAHAM CRUSADE—James and Shirley Dobson shared their testimonies at the Billy Graham Crusade in Cleveland last June (11/94 FocusOnTheFam.) .Both Dobson and Graham are top ecumenicals and big promoters of Roman Cathol-ics who espouse a works-salvation false gospel.

PALAU ECUMENICAL CRUSADES—Evang. Luis Palau is called "The Billy Graham of South America" and for good reason. His ecumenical crusades in-volve Catholics, liberals, and charismatics. Over 560 churches participated in his recent Grand Rapids crusade (11/94 Moody). Pat Boone spoke at Palau’s California crusade last June (9/94 Charisma). Yolanda Eden, a charismatic female pastor, serves on Palau’s 1995 crusades executive committee (11/94 Charisma). Amazing!

CHARISMATIC WOMEN PREACHERS—The 11/94 Charis-ma’s front cover article promotes women pas-tors. It says Daisy (Mrs. T.L.) Osborn has writ-ten six books encouraging women to overcome "female dominance phobia" in churches. Osborn asks: "Is God in a woman to be subordinated to God in a man?" Regarding 1Tim.2:12 & 1Cor.14:34,she said: "I would never permit a few words by Paul, spoken to women of an archaic epoch to limit my obedience to my Lord in my genera-tion." The 10/31 Chr.News comments concerning the Charisma article: "Charisma has long pro-moted such ‘anointed’ divorced and adulterous women evangelists and pastors as Nora Lam, Aimee Semple McPherson, and ‘Miss’ Kathryn Kuhlmann. When women pastors claim to be ‘anointed’ and speak in tongues and heal, then charismatics excuse adultery and divorce (and] continue to support their work." Over half of Youth With a Mission’s 8,000-person work force is female. With charismatics, emotions and visions often take precedence over the written Word of God.

BILL BRIGHT’S FAST FOR REVIVAL—Dr. Bill Bright has sent a letter to hundreds of "influential Christians" issuing a call for them to gather in Orlando, Dec.5-7, as guests of Campus Cru-sade to fast and pray for revival (which Bright believes is "imminent"). The Invitation Committee is a hodgepodge of 72 liberals, new evangelicals, and charismatics. Included are: Robert Schuller, Charles Colson, E.V. Hill, Jack Hayford, James Dobson, W. A. Criswell, Charles Stanley, Paul Crouch, Luis Palau, Bill Gothard, Pat Robertson, Kay Arthur, and Larry Burkett. Bright cites "a great sense of urgency to link arms and unitedly call upon God for help in the spirit of King Jehoshaphat (2Chr.20)." This ecumenical "linking" is in the "spirit of Je-hoshaphat" indeed, but the Jehoshaphat of 2 Chr. 18 (instead of 2 Chr.20) where he "linked" with wicked King Ahab and incurred the wrath of God.

ANOTHER CHURCH LEAVES GARBC—Higgins Lake Bap-tist Church (Mich.) voted unanimously July 20 to separate from the General Assoc. of Regular Baptist Churches. Pastor Michael Lancto said 37 churches were dropped from the GARBC this year and only four were added (over 100 chur-ches left in 1990). Lancto and Deacons cited several problems in a 7-page paper. One of the reasons pertained to Grand Rapids Baptist Col-lege & Seminary (now known as Cornerstone Col-lege and Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary) being unanimously approved once again, without ques-tion, as a GARBC Agency. The paper said this school has at least one professor who holds membership in a Christian Reformed Church and practices infant baptism. Michael Van Horn and the school’s defense of his "heresy" was men-tioned, as was Cornerstone Prof. David Turner.
